HBC Completes the Purchase of 20 Uwala Rd
March 27, 2026 marked the successful transfer of the title of the land at 20 Uwala Road to the Hāna Business Council for the Hāna Hub project! The sale of the property has been completed and recorded. This acquisition is rooted in the effort to solidify a location for a food aggregation and shared-use community kitchen central to the Hāna district, and now that a site has been secured the work can solidly move forward towards that aim!
For all who have put thought and work towards this endeavor congratulations! Mahalo nui to the County of Maui Mayor’s Office, Department of Agriculture, Office of Recovery, and our local representatives at the East Maui Council Office for their guidance and dedication to work in partnership with community nonprofits towards food security and building resilience for our residents.
Initial work on the project was supported by funding through the Maui Department of Agriculture working with the Hāna Chapter of the Hawaiʻi Farmers Union, and also the Hāna Maui Trust. Today Hāna Chapter President Gina Lind, along with Heidi Lea, Executive Director of the HBC, and Gary Chow, President of the HBC, lead the management of the property, with support from the HBC Board of Directors. Nonprofits Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke, Kahanu Garden, Ala Kukui, Kīpahulu ʻOhana, Nā Moku ʻAupuni ʻo Koʻolau Hui, the Kaupo Community Association, and others, have all also significantly contributed to discussions and planning meetings over several years to bring us to this juncture.

The next HBC Member & Community general meeting will be May 12. All are welcome to attend in person at the Hāna Hub house at 20 Uwala Road, or via the link below on Zoom. As you head down Alalele Road (airport), turn left on Uwala Rd, and enter in any of the 3 gates on the right into the first property… park on the grass and come into the house through the front door located on the porch!
The HBC Monthly Member meetings are a time to get updated about current HBC projects, and to let our business community know about YOUR business and other community topics. Our meetings start with a community talk story with member updates – so please let us hear from YOU!
Quarterly, our HBC member meetings are focusing on the Hana hub project, which includes this March 10 meeting. This month we will be talking about community use of the Hāna hub pavilion, as well as giving a recap of a Hāna hub planning meeting workshop planned during the day. Reach out to hbc@hanabusinesscouncil.com for more information.
Let us know if you have questions or topics you would like to add to the agenda. For more information about the Hāna Hub project visit Hanafood.org.
